Keep calm and learn the key terms

There are many terminologies you may have come across while researching about recreational marijuana. To a novice marijuana user, terms such as THC, CBD, Sativa, Indica, and Hybrids will be introduced and explained to get a better understanding what is the right product for your needs.

THC

Tetrahydrocannabinol (or THC) is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis that produces the high sensation. It can be consumed by smoking cannabis. It’s also available in oils, edibles, tinctures, capsules, and more. This chemical ingredient found in the cannabis plant is responsible for stimulating cells in the brain to release dopamine. In other words, THC contributes to the euphoric feeling you get when partaking in recreational marijuana. The higher the THC, the stronger that euphoric feeling.

CBD

Similar to THC, cannabidiol (CBD) is the other chemical compound found in cannabis however it is non-psychoactive. Therefore, CBD does not contribute to any euphoric feelings, but it does promote the feeling of relaxation and calm. In other words, CBD contributes to calmness and relaxation feeling you get when partaking in recreational marijuana.

Sativa

There are two types of cannabis, one of them is Sativa. Marijuana strains that are Sativa dominant are known for effects of a “head high” and energizing effect that contribute to reduced levels of anxiety and stress. In other words, Sativa can help spark creativity and reduce anxiety or stress. Also, Sativas are also commonly used to increase creativity and focus.

 

Indica

The other type of cannabis you will likely find is Indica. Marijuana strains that are Indica dominant are known for effects associated with “full body” and sedating effects. In other words, Indica promotes deep relaxation and contributes to reducing insomnia.

 

Hybrids

The two main types of cannabis have been covered above, Sativa and Indica, however you may have found yourself coming across cannabis strains labelled as Hybrid. Simply put, Hybrid strains are a mix of both Indica and Sativa and often provide a more balanced combination of Indica and Sativa cannabis effects. In other words, since Hybrids are a combination of Sativa and Indica they contribute to both mind and body effects.
